Can I run Windows on a VPS?

What you can run

• Windows-only business software: accounting, ERP and point-of-sale systems your team uses remotely.

• .NET and ASP.NET apps, MS SQL Express, IIS.
• A remote desktop for staff who need the same Windows machine from anywhere.

How to connect

1. After ordering, you receive the server’s IP address and Administrator password.
2. On Windows, open Remote Desktop Connection; on a Mac or phone, install the Microsoft Remote Desktop / Windows App.
3. Enter the IP address and log in as Administrator. Change the password straight away.

How big a server?

Windows needs more memory than Linux. As a guide:

• 1–2 users or a trading terminal: 2 vCPU and 4 GB RAM.
• Small office software, a few users: 4 vCPU and 8 GB RAM.
• Several users or a database: 6 vCPU and 12 GB RAM or more.

Good to know

• A VPS is self-managed by default; you keep Windows updated, or add our managed service at checkout.
• Backups aren’t included by default; add them at checkout.
• Keep Remote Desktop secure: strong passwords, and limit who can connect.
